Get Connected at CUMC

Here are some opportunities for getting and staying connected at CUMC.

Kids.Connect is a Sunday morning program for all children, from preschool through 6th grade. Children begin in worship with their families in the sanctuary at 9:30 a.m. They will enjoy Mr. Dave’s Kids.Connect message, and are dismissed to their classroom around 9:45. Parents have time for a quick cup of coffee or treat after worship before collecting children from their classroom at 10:45 a.m. Here at CUMC, we believe children should be seen AND heard.  We welcome children of all ages in worship on Sunday mornings!

SPLAT! Youth Group meets weekly on Sundays immediately following worship. Join us for a time of learning, serving, sharing, and fun!  All youth, grades 7 – 12, are invited to take part. SPLAT! members serve an active and important role in church events. Last year those included our annual Luminary Soup Supper, the Coralville Pride Festival, and the CUMC/CCFP RAGBRAI meal.

Sunday Morning Fellowship is a time for caring and sharing after worship in the Community Room. And our very own youth-run Brew Crew serves delicious treats and beverages for your enjoyment.  All are welcome!

Music Ministry:  Celebration Choir meets for rehearsal weekly on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 pm.  New voices always welcome, so feel free to come and “make a joyful noise” with other enthusiastic singers!

First Sunday Potluck: We continue our tradition of a sharing a potluck meal the first Sunday of each month in Community Room after worship. Bring a dish to share if you are able. Beverages and table service will be provided, and Brew Crew will supply their famous sweet treats.  All are welcome!

Adult Small Group Studies: Our current fall study accompanies a sermon series based on the book,  Jesus’ Alternative Plan by Richard Rohr.  The weekly study takes uis deeper into our exploration of the key themes raised in the book. There are two options for participating in this study:
-Wednesday evenings, from 5:30-7:00, Sept. 13 – Nov. 15 in the Community Room
-On-line sessions Thursday evenings at 6:30 pm via Zoom, Sept. 21 – Nov. 16

With Advent just around the corner, we are looking forward to participating in a virtual, conference-wide Advent Study of Bishop Ken Carter’s new book, Unrelenting Grace. Bishop Carter calls grace the essence of a holy life, in which we recognize that God’s loving presence in our lives is a gift. Being able to receive that gift and extend it to others “…stretches us, mystifies us, unravels us, and ultimately heals us,” he writes.
The study will last for four sessions and will be entirely online on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. Central, beginning on November 28, continuing through December 5, December 12 and the 19.  More information will be shared soon.
